In a Facebook statement, the Sanford PD says Officer Mateo and Officer Morales responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic violence incident and possible stabbing.
During the response, Officer Mateo was attacked, police say, and the suspect reportedly tried to choke the officer.
The suspect, identified by law enforcement as 18-year-old Brandon Legere, was TASERed and taken into custody, WESH reports.
Legere is now facing charges of attempted homicide murder while engaging in resisting an officer with violence as well as domestic violence charges.
