Monday night, two Virginia state troopers rescued a 40-year-old woman from her car after it became submerged in a retention pond off Interstate 66.

The Virginia State Police said Troopers A. King and B. Foret arrived at the scene at about 9:40 p.m. to find a vehicle that had driven off the roadway into a retention pond. The vehicle had become submerged, and the female driver was trapped inside.

The troopers jumped into the retention pond and rescued the woman through the sunroof.

She was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Because of the cold temperatures, EMS also evaluated King and Foret.
