An off-duty NYPD officer was driving along the Robert Moses State Parkway over the weekend when he saw a vehicle in the bay and saved a woman in crisis, police said.
NYPD Special Operations Sgt. O’Brien was traveling down the parkway on Fire Island on Saturday afternoon when he spotted the Jeep, WINS reports.
“Without hesitation, he jumped into the water & swam over to the Jeep where he observed a woman in crisis,” police said.
O’Brien quickly established a dialogue with the woman before bringing her to safety. After she was secure, he returned to the Jeep to make sure no one else was inside.
Thanks to his bravery and the joint response from the New York State Police and New York State Parks.
