Indiana Deputy Dies from Wounds Suffered Sept. 1, Organs Donated

Wednesday the Newton County Sheriff’s Office said Corporal Brandon Schreiber, shot on Sept. 1 while pursuing a suspect across the Illinois border in Sheldon, had died.

A Newton County (Indiana) Sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the line of duty in Illinois Sept. 1 has died.

In a Facebook post Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said Corporal Brandon Schreiber, shot on Sept. 1 while pursuing a suspect across the Illinois border in Sheldon, would not survive his injuries.

In an update late Wednesday morning, the sheriff’s office said Schreiber had died.

The post also noted Schreiber was an organ donor and “his sacrifice will present the opportunity for him to help many other people.”
