Virginia Deputy Shot and Killed During Traffic Stop

The suspect reportedly opened fire on the officers and deputies, killing Deputy Hunter Reedy and wounding another deputy. The second deputy suffered minor injuries.

A Smyth County, Virginia, Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Friday.

Deputy Hunter Reedy, 27, was part of a group of officers and deputies who were attempting to arrest a man who fled a traffic stop by Marion Police.

The suspect reportedly opened fire on the officers and deputies, killing Deputy Reedy and wounding another deputy. The second deputy suffered minor injuries, WDBJ reports.

The Smyth County Sheriff’s Office says the driver, who is believed to be from North Carolina, is recovering from minor injuries with charges pending. The expected charges include one count of aggravated murder and four counts of attempted aggravated murder, according to the sheriff’s office.

Reedy is survived by three children.
