The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says a Summit, Mississippi, police officer was killed Thursday while working a checkpoint.
MBI says Officer Troy Floyd was shot and killed when a passenger opened fire on him from a passing car.
Two McComb officers reportedly responded and shot it out with the suspect. They were both wounded and the suspect was killed, according to MBI.
The wounded McComb officers are expected to recover.
Bailey Martin, a spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, identified the suspected shooter as 25-year-old Usher Leonard, WAPT reports.
Officer Floyd had served in law enforcement for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife and children.
