A 20-year-old off-duty Bexar County, Texas, Sheriff’s deputy was killed Sunday in a wreck involving a suspected wrong way driver, the sheriff’s office reports.
Deputy Meredith Portillo had two passenger in her vehicle when it was struck by the wrong way driver, the sheriff’s office said.
“Deputy Portillo and one passenger were killed upon impact, while one other passenger in her vehicle was seriously injured. The driver of the reportedly wrong way vehicle was also killed,” the sheriff’s office said.
Deputy Portillo began her law enforcement career with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in September 2023. She graduated from the detention academy in January 2024.
