Earlier this week the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) released body-worn camera video of an officer-involved shooting incident that occurred in February. The footage shows the suspect turning toward the officer with a semi-automatic pistol before the officer shot him.

On February 8, 2024, at approximately 10:47 a.m., officers responded to an armed subject call for service. The area was being actively monitored by surveillance cameras used by CMPD’s Real Time Crime Center as part of the department’s crime reduction initiatives.

RTCC personnel “observed a male subject on the video surveillance remove a firearm, which had been concealed within the waistband of his clothing and manipulate the firearm before further concealing it back into his clothing. RTCC notified officers of the armed subject prior to their arrival on scene,” CMPD said in a press release

Arriving on scene officers exited their patrol vehicles and observed what appeared to be a drug transaction between the armed subject, Timothy Deangelo Moore, 33, and another individual in the parking lot, police said.

CMPD says officers issued multiple verbal commands for Moore to show his hands. The BWC video shows a short foot pursuit. During the pursuit, the video shows Moore pull a pistol from his waistband and turned his body in the direction of the officer. The officer shot Moore.

Officer then rendered aid.

The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene.  MEDIC transported Moore to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured in this incident.

Moore recovered from his wounds and has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Resisting a Public Officer and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.

Moore has since been released from the Mecklenburg County Jail, CMPD says.
