LA Deputy Wounded During Drug Raid

One Louisiana deputy was shot and another struck in the vest during a raid with Drug Enforcement Administration agents Thursday morning. Deputies returned fire, killing the shooter.

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office (LA) deputy was shot and a second deputy saved by a ballistic vest as they and federal drug agents served a search warrant Thursday morning. A man inside the home opened fire and was killed in the shootout with deputies.

One deputy sustained a serious injury to his lower abdomen and the other was struck in his ballistic vest, reports WBRZ.

The sheriff’s office body-worn camera footage showed the 21-year-old man raising a gun as deputies kicked open the bedroom door. A sheriff’s department statement said once they were fired upon the deputies returned fire.

Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said the two deputies, who work undercover, are expected to recover.
