A Santaquin, Utah, police officer was killed Sunday when he was struck by a tractor-trailer driven by a man reportedly trying to escape a traffic stop.
Sgt. Bill Hooser, 50, was killed when the truck struck him, his patrol vehicle, and a Utah Highway Patrol vehicle, KUTV reports.
The suspect later identified as 42-year-old Michael Aaron Jayne fled on foot before allegedly stealing a white Ford truck. Jayne crashed the truck during a pursuit in the Vernal area and was taken into custody, officials say.
Hooser is survived by his wife and two daughters, two son in laws and his new granddaughter.
A GoFundMe page has been established for the family.
