Phoenix Officer Shot Multiple Times at Off-Duty Assignment

Police say several suspects were trying to carjack another person, and a Phoenix police officer who was working off-duty in uniform at a nearby business was notified and responded to the area where he came under fire.

Phoenix police have arrested three suspects in connection to an “ambush-style” shooting that wounded a Phoenix police officer on Friday night. The officer who was shot multiple times was released from the hospital Monday April 1.

Police say one adult and two people under 18 were involved in the shooting in Laveen. Details or identities of the suspects have not been released, and police say the investigation into the shooting remains active, AZ Family reports.

Around 11:30 p.m. on March 29, in a parking lot, police say several suspects were trying to carjack another person. A Phoenix police officer who was working off-duty in uniform at a nearby business was notified and responded to the area.

Investigators say that’s when one of the suspects opened fire, hitting the officer multiple times. He didn’t return fire. At least three suspects fled the area before additional officers arrived, and the officer was rushed to a hospital in stable condition. KTAR reports he suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
