A police officer was shot Thursday at the Meridian Police Department while escorting a person to court, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Meridian Police Chief Deborah Naylor Young told The Meridian Star the shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m.
According to a Mississippi Bureau of Investigation press release, the police officer was bringing the suspect to a court hearing when the suspect got ahold of a gun and shot him. A second officer then shot the suspect.
The Meridian Police Department’s public information officer said both the officer and suspect were in stable condition and their injuries were not considered life threatening.
