A Dinuba, California, veteran police officer was shot Thursday night while responding to the report of a fight. The officer was struck in the lower body and is listed in critical condition but is expected to survive.
Dinuba Police Chief Abel Iriarte told FOX26 officers responded to an area near the local high school around 8 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that an irate and unwanted guest showed up at a house.
According to the chief, officers noticed the man had a firearm and asked him to surrender the weapon, but instead, he shot an officer. Officers returned fire and struck the subject.
Both the officer and the man who fired at officers were rushed to an area hospital. The suspect is also listed in critical condition.
