A Michigan police officer sustained a fractured spine, broken ribs, and a busted nose after being thrown down a flight of stairs while serving a court order for a mental health assessment earlier this week.
Police were told the suspect was non-violent, reported FOX2. But when two Armada Township officers arrived to serve the court order Wednesday night, the man refused to come downstairs to the door.
Armada Chief Richard Maierle said when the officers went upstairs, the suspect physically lifted one officer and threw him over the railing, causing him to fall down the stairs.
The second officer also sustained injuries and bruises, police said, but was able to pepper spray the man before additional officers arrived. The suspect was arrested with the help of Michigan State Police.
Both officers, according to the chief, are expected to make a full recovery.
