A Phoenix officer recovering from multiple gunshot wounds he suffered in 2021 threw out the first pitch at Game 5 of the 2023 World Series Wednesday Night.

Officer Tyler Moldovan aided by his wife Chelsea was escorted to the center of the diamond and threw the ceremonial pitch to Diamondback’s player Zach Gallen. He received a standing ovation from the crowd at Chase Field.

Moldovan had only been on the job a few months when he was shot multiple times on Dec. 14, 2021. He initially wasn't expected to survive his severe wounds, 12News reports.

After undergoing months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, Moldovan was released and returned home last summer.
