Louisiana Deputy Marshal Shot and Killed Serving Warrant

A Ville Platte, LA, deputy city marshal was shot and killed while serving a warrant Monday night. Another officer was critically wounded

Ville Platte Mayor Ryan LeDay Williams identified the slain officer as deputy marshal Barry Giglio, NOLA.com reports.

The wounded officer has not been officially identified.

Williams said Giglio was assisting the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office in serving a warrant at a residence when the shooting occurred. Giglio and the suspect were killed and two others, including a sheriff’s deputy, were critically injured. Williams said more information is being developed as investigators determine exactly what happened Monday night.

Giglio reportedly served with the Ville Platte City Marshals Office for two years and previously served 16 years with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office.
