This year marks the fifth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. The traveling United in Memory 9/11 Victims Memorial Quilt seeks to immortalize the memory of those who died that day.
The 16,000-square-foot quilt, a global undertaking of more than 3,000 volunteers in 18 countries, is dedicated to the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The traveling exhibit consists of 142 individual 10.5-foot square panels, each containing 25 blocks (for a total of 3,550 blocks). Each and every victim of the attacks on the World Trade Center Towers I and II, the Pentagon, and the passengers and crew of American Airlines Flights 11 and 77 and United Airlines Flights 93 and 175 have been memorialized.
The quilt, in its entirety, will be exhibited at the Staten Island campus of St. John's University for the September 11th weekend. The exhibit is presented by Where to Turn and the Joseph Maffeo Foundation.
