Safariland Certifies Two More Body Armor Models Under New NIJ Standard

Safariland announced today that it has released two more body armor models that satisfy the requirements of the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ) new Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ Standard-0101.06 (NIJ-06).

Safariland, a BAE Systems line of business, announced today that it has released two more body armor models that satisfy the requirements of the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ) new Voluntary Body Armor Compliance Testing Program under NIJ Standard-0101.06 (NIJ-06).

Safariland's XT-300 Type IIA (#BA-2A00S-BR01) and XT-300 Type II (#BA-2000S-BR01) models have been determined by the NIJ to comply with the new NIJ-06 standard. These two models are part of Safariland's Xtreme Series of concealable body armor, and are now available for purchase. Along with its previously announced compliant models, Safariland now has four body armor models that are listed as being compliant with NIJ-06.

The NIJ introduced the Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor NIJ Standard-0101.06 to establish minimum performance requirements and test methods for the ballistic resistance of personal body armor in order to improve performance so that officers receive adequate protection against those threats likely faced over the next decade. According to the new NIJ-06 standard, body armor must now be able to defend against increased velocities of ammunition calibers to better reflect current street threats and law enforcement duty weapons. These new performance requirements are critical components to improving the life-protecting equipment being used by law enforcement.

"We are very pleased by our R&D team's continued success at developing, testing and releasing NIJ-06 compliant body armor models," said Safariland President Scott O'Brien. "This expansion of our comprehensive line of NIJ-06 body armor further establishes Safariland as an industry leader. Most importantly, it illustrates our commitment to saving the lives of those who protect us."

Safariland's NIJ-06 body armor models combine the latest technologies with advanced ballistic materials. The newest available models under Safariland's Xtreme Series include:

§ XT-300 Type IIA – Tested against the 9mm & .40 cal. threats, this model provides optimum ballistic performance in a robust design.

§ XT-300 Type II – Tested against the 9mm & .357 mag. threats, this model also provides optimum ballistic performance in a robust design.

These newly approved models add to Safariland's line of previously approved NIJ-06 body armor models:

§ XT-700 Type II – Tested against the 9mm & .357 mag. threats, this model provides advanced ballistic protection in a lightweight, hybrid design.

§ XT-300 Type IIIA – Tested against the .357 Sig & .44 mag. threats, this model provides optimum ballistic performance in a robust design.

With the introduction of these new NIJ-06 body armor models, Safariland continues its tradition of excellence in protecting law enforcement officers. Recently restructured to incorporate all of its previously independent operating brands, the company is united under one name: Safariland. Together, Safariland's body armor models combine the heritage and expertise of American Body Armor, PROTECH, SAVVY, Safariland Armorwear and Second Chance.
