Shooter Uses High-Powered Rifle to Kill Georgia Officer
Lt. Mike Vogt was ambushed as he drove down a dirt road. He was able to reverse for about 50 yards and call for help, before his patrol car came to a stop.
Several law enforcement agencies are searching for the killer of a Chattahoochee Hills (Ga.) police officer, who was shot by a high-powered gun as he patrolled a rural area northeast of Atlanta.
Lt. Mike Vogt was ambushed as he drove down a dirt road, AJC.com reports. He was investigating a suspicious vehicle. After the shooting, Vogt was able to reverse for about 50 yards and call for help, before his patrol car came to a stop.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
Police are looking for the 1984 two-tone brown Chrysler and the two or three men seen inside. Police also suspect a blue pickup truck with a ladder may have been involved as well.
Rewards totalling $35,000 have been offered for information leading to the arrest of Vogt's killer.
