Woman Killed After Threatening Officer With Sewing Scissors

A Toledo police officer shot and killed a 62-year-old woman described as a schizophrenic who had threatened the officer with a pair of sewing scissors.

A Toledo police officer fatally shot a 62-year-old woman described as a schizophrenic who had threatened to kill the officer with a pair of sewing scissors, the Toledo Free Press reports.

Officer Diane Chandler, a 33-year-old patrol officer certified with crisis intervention training, shot Linda Hicks multiple times.

Chandler shot the woman, after fellow officer Rebecca Kenney attempted to stun Hicks with a Taser. The less-lethal device's cartridge had malfunctioned, requiring the officer to use it in drive-stun mode.
