Lester Shubin, who is credited with developing the first body armor for law officers, has died at age 84.

Lester Shubin, who is credited with developing the first body armor for law officers, has died at age 84, the Washington Post reports.

While working as a researcher with the National Institute of Justice in the early 1970s, Shubin developed the vest from a new DuPont fabric that was to replace steel belting on high-speed tires.
