The Oakland Police Department will organize a crowd-control training excercise today to better prepare officers to respond to protests related to a verdict in the trial of former BART officer Johannes Mehserle, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
The department hopes to avert a replay of rioting that occurred in January 2009, after Mehserle was arrested, then released on bail.
Jurors aren't expected to begin deliberations until later this month at the earliest.
