Phoenix Police Officer David Salgado has filed a federal lawsuit challenging SB 1070, the Arizona immigration law that requires officers to check the immigration status of suspects they question.
In his claim, Salgado says enforcing the law means he would violate the rights of Hispanics and be forced to expend his own time and resources to familiarize himself with the law's requirements, the Arizona Republic reports.
Tucson Police Officer Martin Escobar, 45, filed a separate suit in federal court against the governor, attorney general, Tucson and Pima County.
