NYPD Cop's Secret Audio Recordings Reveal Crime Report Manipulation
The audio recordings are from eight-year NYPD officer Adrian Schoolcraft, who had spoken out in February about manipulation of crime reports in the 81st Precinct.
New York's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood can be a rough place to work for NYPD officers who are placed under tremendous stress from commanders to maintain a high activity of "stop and frisks" and also report fewer crimes so crime statistics remain low, according to the audio tapes of one 81st Precinct officer.
The audio recordings are from eight-year NYPD officer Adrian Schoolcraft and have been obtained by the Village Voice, who is releasing the remarkable recordings via its website. Schoolcraft had spoken out to the Daily News in February about manipulation of crime reports in the 81st Precinct.
The tapes reveal precinct roll calls, conversations with command staff, street encounters, small talk and stationhouse banter.
Schoolcraft recorded hundreds of hours of cops talking about their jobs between June 1, 2008, and October 31, 2009 without the approval or knowledge of the NYPD.
