Detroit's annual vigil honoring fallen officers took on an especially poignant tone this year, as 700 uniformed officers honored Brian Huff, recently slain while responding to a suspected drug house, among the department's fallen officers.
The department's 11th annual memorial service and vigil came on the eve of National Police Week, which runs from May 9-14.
Speakers had initially planned to talk about how long the department had gone without losing an officer, the Detroit News reports. A funeral for Huff is scheduled for Saturday.
