Wiley X Inc. has announced an ongoing collaboration with 5.11 Tactical to create a new line of cutting-edge protective eyewear systems for military, law enforcement, fire/EMS professionals, and others who serve or work in dangerous conditions.
This collaboration of visionary companies has resulted in the development of two initial new eyewear styles - the 5.11 Shear and the 5.11 Climb - designed and manufactured by Wiley X to meet 5.11's specifications for comfort, performance and high-velocity protection.
The glasses exceed ANSI Z87.1 safety and ANSI Z80.03 optical standards, delivering both the serious protection and the clear, comfortable vision required to perform duties under the world's most challenging environments. Both the Shear and the Climb feature die-cut, low distortion Selenite polycarbonate lenses that are 10 times more impact resistant than glass or resin. These lenses feature Wiley X's battlefield-proven T-Shell coating for superior resistance to scratching, cracking or crazing. The lenses also provide wearers with 100-percent UVA/UVB protection.
Frames are crafted from Rislan G350, which the manufacturer says is virtually indestructible and resistant to chemical or UV damage. Oil- and sweat-resistant touch points at the nose and temples make these glasses comfortable for work, training, and general wear. Both the new Climb and the Shear come with a MOLLE-compatible 5.11 SlickStick protective carry case for ease of transport and ready access.
"We're extremely proud of the fact that 5.11 selected Wiley X, a world leader in developing their new protective eyewear line," said Wiley X president of sales Myles Freeman, Jr. "They are also a global leader in functional, innovative tactical wear that protects users from head to toe. Our eyewear technology has been protecting law enforcement and armed forces personnel under some of the most extreme conditions in the world. This is a great alliance that will bring an even greater level of protection to those who put their safety and their lives on the line," added Freeman.
