The mom of the brave Bronx cop who survived three gunshots said Wednesday she's looking forward to an early Mother's Day gift - hearing her son speak again.
Officer Robert Salerno "can't wait to get back on the streets of New York City," his proud mother said.
"He's still on the ventilator but hopefully [he's] coming off that today," Sherry Salerno said.
"It's going to be a long recovery but we're all looking forward."
In the meantime, Salerno has been scribbling praises - on pieces of paper because he still has a breathing tube down his throat - of the three cops who braved a barrage of bullets to dragged him to safety.
