Servicemen Help Stabbed California Sergeant Arrest Attacker
The three Marines and Army private who were about to be deployed to Afghanistan helped the sergeant get the 19-year-old man into custody. Police had responded to a call of a man "brandishing a sharp instrument and threatening citizens."

Four active-duty servicemen came to the aid of a Long Beach (Calif.) PD sergeant, who had been attacked by a man with an edged weapon, the agency announced.
The three Marines and U.S. Army Private First Class Abner Marquez, 20, were about to be deployed to Afghanistan helped the sergeant get 19-year-old Junior Antonio Fonseca into custody. Police had responded to a call of a man "brandishing a sharp instrument and threatening citizens."
Police set up a perimeter and searched for the man, but could not find him. The man attacked the sergeant — who fired one round — as police were leaving the area.
During the altercation, the sergeant was stabbed several times in the head and ear area. He was treated at a local hospital and is expected to fully recover.
Later in the day, Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell presented Marquez with a Chief's Citation for his heroic deed. The three Marines could not attend the ceremony, because they were required to report to Camp Pendleton for deployment Saturday.
