An NYPD officer who didn't give medical care to an 11-year-old girl suffering from an asthma attack who later died has been suspended without pay, the New York Times reports.
Officer Alfonso Mendez, 30, was flagged down in Brooklyn on Friday by Carmen Ojeda, who was trying to rush daughter Briana to a nearby hospital. After asking the officer to perform mouth-to-mouth on her daughter, Mendez reportedly said he didn't know CPR.
Mendez, an NYPD officer since 2005 who is assigned to the 84th Precinct, has been stripped of his badge and gun as he awaits disciplinary action. Officers are trained in CPR in the academy.
