A year ago, the two slain Hoonah (Alaska) police officers encountered the man authories say fatally shot them Sunday evening during a violent encounter that resulted in injuries to the officers.
The Juneau Empire and Anchorage Daily News are providing new details of the August 2009 arrest of John Nick Marvin Jr., who authorities believe shot Sgt. Anthony Wallace and Officer Matthew Tokuoka.
The incident began, when the officers responded to a home invasion call. In his report of the Aug. 14 incident, Wallace wrote about Marvin's "mental health issues."
The officers followed Marvin to his home, where he ambushed them in an alley and physically attacked them. Both officers had drawn their guns and eventually used a TASER to subdue Marvin, who ignored their verbal commands.
Charges were eventually dropped in that case.
