Drug-Running SUV Crosses Mexico-Arizona Border, After Pursuit

ICE notified local law enforcement agencies and border agents that the white SUV was registered to a Rio Rico address, as the vehicle raced southbound on Interstate 19.

Mexican authorities detained the driver of a drug-filled SUV in Nogales, Sonora, after police chased the vehicle from Rio Rico (Ariz.) to the border point of entry.

The pursuit began during a surveillance operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in Rio Rico. A Nogales police detective was involved in the operation, Nogales Police Chief Jeffrey Kirkham told POLICE Magazine.

ICE notified local law enforcement agencies and border agents that the white SUV was registered to a Rio Rico address, as the vehicle raced southbound on Interstate 19.

Eventually, authorities used spike strips to puncture one of the SUV's tires. The driver was able to cross into Mexico where he crashed the vehicle, reports Nogales International. A cargo of marijuana was seized.
