Los Angeles Sheriff's Department deputies moved in to Maywood and Cudahy a month ago to take over patrol duties, after Maywood disbanded its police department, to find numerous open cases.
More than 80 reports of suspected child abuse had seemingly gone uninvestigated by the local police agency, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The department was disbanded in June by the city, after Maywood officials had difficulty obtaining insurance due the the numerous lawsuits stemming from officers. The newspaper once published a story calling the department "a haven for misfit cops."
