New York City has agreed to pay more than $7 million to settle a federal civil rights lawsuit brought by the family and friends of Sean Bell, a 23-year-old who was shot by NYPD officers on his wedding day in 2006, the New York Times reports.
The city will pay $3.25 million to the children of Bell's fiance Nicole and $3.9 million to two of Bell's friends who were injured in the shooting. Joseph Guzman will receive $3 million and Trent Benefield will receive $900,000.
