Oakland Chief May Depart for San Jose Chief Job

Anthony Batts, who was recruited from Long Beach (Calif.) PD in 2009, has seen his ranks fall from a nearly 800-officer force to the current 657 sworn, due to budget cuts.

Oakland Police Chief Anthony Batts told his officers' union Sunday that he may leave the department for the top post in nearby San Jose, where he has been named one of two finalists, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

Batts, who was recruited from Long Beach (Calif.) PD in 2009, has seen his ranks fall from a nearly 800-officer force to the current 657 sworn, due to budget cuts.

Batts told the the Oakland Police Officers Association that he and Chris Moore, San Jose PD's acting chief, are the two finalists.
