Rainer (Ore.) Police Chief Ralph Painter was apparently shot with his own service weapon in the work bay of a car stereo shop on Wednesday morning, after a struggle with a subject acting suspiciously, reports the Oregonian.
Chief Painter, 55, had responded to the shop's call at about 11 a.m. that a man later identified as 21-year-old Daniel Armaugh had entered the bay and was acting suspiciously. Armaugh apparently wrestled the gun from Chief Painter and fatally shot the officer.
Other Rainer officers arrived, exchanging fire with Armaugh, and taking the suspect into custody. Armaugh is injured but expected to recover.
