Ohio Deputy Slain In Trailer Park Gunfight

A shotgun blast from a suspect hiding inside a western Ohio mobile home park killed a Clark County Sheriff's deputy, while she photographed a footprint, early on New Year's Day.

The shooting triggered a deadly gun battle that closed Interstate-70 for several hours and left another officer injured and the suspect dead.

Dep. Suzanne Waughtel Hopper, 40, was married and a mother of two children. She had responded to shots-fired call at an Enon Beach trailer park at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, reports the Springfield News-Sun.

Officers from five local agencies and three SWAT teams then arrived at the trailer park, engaging in a fierce gun battle with 57-year-old suspect Michael Ferryman that was captured by local television news outlet WDTN.
