California Deputy Saves Family, After Smelling Smoke

The smell of smoke led Dep. Mike Cruz to the La Presa neighborhood of East County where he found a garage on fire at about 4:30 a.m. Cruz then banged on the door and got the five sleeping family members out of the burning house.

While on patrol early Christmas morning, a San Diego County (Calif.) Sheriff's deputy rescued a family of five from a burning home after smelling smoke, reports the Union-Tribune.

The smell of smoke led Dep. Mike Cruz to the La Presa neighborhood of East County where he found a garage on fire shortly after 4:30 a.m.
