Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have suspended Arvin Fant, the detective who testified he had discarded notes in the trial of a man convicted of killing two police officers, according to a news report.

WBTV is reporting that Chief Rodney Monroe said the department has suspended Fant without pay and recommended him for termination.
Police spokesmen have not responded to Observer requests for confirmation.
Fant was among the investigators in the 2007 killings of officers Sean Clark and Jeff Shelton. Demeatrius Montgomery, who was convicted in the shootings, received two life sentences.
But Judge Forrest Bridges refused to allow prosecutors to pursue the death penalty against Montgomery, after Fant admitted he had discarded his original investigative notes and copied and pasted notes from another investigator into his own report.
