A DeKalb County, Ga., sheriff's deputy shot while serving a warrant was in stable condition Monday morning following surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital, officials said.
Meanwhile, his alleged shooter has been discharged from Grady and transported to DeKalb County Jail, a sheriff's spokeswoman said. More charges await Joshua Matthew Waller, who already faces one count of aggravated assault and a simple battery misdemeanor from the original warrant Cpl. Gary Freeman served him Sunday night at the Keys Crossing Condominiums.
Waller opened the front door holding a gun and shot the 13-year law enforcement veteran in the forearm, DeKalb Sheriff Thomas Brown said. Another deputy returned fire, striking the suspect in the upper torso.
