Operators of a fleet of vans and trucks responsible for shuttling thousands of undocumented immigrants from the U.S.-Mexico border to the Phoenix area has been busted by a state task force following a year-long investigation.
Six people were arrested and 62 vehicles seized during the Wednesday bust of an ring with ties to Guatamala that smuggled people from Central and South America, as well as Mexico.
The investigation began more than a year ago, when the Goodyear PD's Officer Sean Clarke noticed a number of trucks and vans with tinted windows that appeared to have reinforced shock absorbers while conducting a routine patrol check of a U-Haul rental-storage facility.
