The NYPD officer who stopped an armed robbery in a Brooklyn beauty salon will received her gold detective shield for her heroic actions in a promotion ceremony Tuesday in City Hall, reports WPIX.com.
Officer Feris Jones, 50, will be recognized by NYPD Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg for "her poise and marksmanship," according to the report.
Jones is a 20-year NYPD veteran recently assigned to the crime lab. She was off-duty Saturday at a Brooklyn beauty salon, when 19-year-old parolee Winston Cox tried to rob the salon with a revolver.
The off-duty officer who was getting her hair done in the salon at the time exchanged fire with Cox. Rounds from her service weapon struck his hand and the lock on the front door.
