A ploy by illegal immigrants posing as U.S. Marines was uncovered by a Border Patrol agent this week, who asked them a question they weren't prepared to answer.
When Agent S. Smith stopped the van carrying the group, he observed their camouflage uniforms and military-style buzz cuts. The license plates on their van had even been switched from Mexican to U.S. government plates. And their cover story was that they were Marines traveling to March Air Reserve Base, reports the Los Angeles Times.
Agent Smith asked the birthday of the Marine Corps, and the driver, Arturo Leyva, couldn't answer. The ploy unraveled March 14, and the men were detained.
