Omaha (Neb.) Police Officer Paul Milone has been awarded the 2011 Jeff Chudwin award, which is given each year to an officer who makes a contribution to the "greater cause of preparation, training and education."

Officer Milone has been singled out for his heroic actions in September, when he used his patrol rifle to save the life of a child held hostage by a sword-wielding adult.

The award is given in honor of the nation's primary champion of the modern day patrol rifle movement, Chief Jeff Chudwin, who is chief of the Village of Olympia Fields, Ill. Chief Chudwin has trained many agencies on the value of a sound patrol rifle program.

Chudwin's professionalism, candor, and counsel have helped countless law enforcement officers through difficult times. His service to the greater good is evident by his every day actions and his motto, "Just do the right thing."

Each year, this award will be bestowed upon a deserving law enforcement officer. Officer Milone will be honored on June 5 in Detroit.
