Goliath Davis, a former St. Petersburg (Fla.) Police chief, said he was dismissed from his position as city administrator because he skipped three memorial services for slain officers and attended the funeral of cop killer Hydra Lacy, reports the Tampa Tribune.
Davis held a news conference following his firing to defend his decision to attend the funeral for the man who fatally shot Sgt. Thomas Baitinger and Officer Jeffrey Yaslowitz, saying he didn't want to "disavow the Lacy family."
Davis, who also skipped the funeral for Officer David Crawford, said he didn't attend the police funerals because it would be too painful for him.
