Paramus (N.J.) Police Officer Rachel Morgan was shot several times while exchanging gunfire with a suspect, who she attempted to pull over for speeding and driving with fictitious plates, reports New Jersey Newsroom.
Officer Morgan, 31, attempted to pull over the driver of a silver vehicle, who then lost control near the Route 17 entrance ramp of the Garden State Parkway.
In the exchange of gunfire with Michael Sean Carmody, Officer Morgan was struck in her ballistic vest and stomach. Another officer also returned fire in a gunfight that involved "considerable" rounds fired.
The officer underwent surgery on Monday, and Carmody was listed in critical condition.
