The man accused of fatally shooting Indianapolis Metro Police Officer David Moore apparently obtained the gun to shoot someone who had cheated him out of $100, according to court documents obtained by WISH TV.
Thomas Hardy, who has been charged with the murder of the officer, pulled into a driveway when he noticed the officer was following him on the morning of Jan. 23. Officer Moore pulled in behind him, activated his emergency lights and instructed Hardy to exit the vehicle.
Worried that he would head back to prison if the officer found the gun, Hardy loaded a round in the chamber and took the gun off the safety. He said after that "one thing led to another."
Seven shell casings matching Hardy's gun were found at the scene.
