Chicago Police Officer Paul Casasanto is mourning the loss of Mik, his equine partner who suffered a fatal seizure while patrolling North Beach in Monday.
Officer Casasanto slid off the horse as it began to struggle inexplicably, and watched as the his horse folded to the ground, kicked its hind legs and lay motionless. "Mommy, what's wrong with the horse?" a little blond boy asked, tugging on his mother's beach bag.
Mik was named after a fallen police officer and to Officer Casasanto "like family."
