Video: N.Y. Videographer Arrested for Filming Pursuit
A Suffolk County (N.Y.) Police officer arrested a news cameraman, who had stopped to film the scene after a pursuit, for interfering with an "active investigation."
A Suffolk County (N.Y.) Police officer arrested a news cameraman, who had stopped to film the scene after a pursuit, for interfering with an "active investigation."
Phil Datz, a videographer with Stringer News Service, posted the video of his Friday evening encounter on YouTube.
The officer, who Datz refers to as "sergeant," repeatedly tells Datz to "just go away." Datz was arrested and charged with obstruction of governmental administration. He was booked at the Fifth Precinct station on Long Island.
On Monday, Suffolk County police announced plans to have charges dropped against Datz. Commissioner Richard Dormer also announced an internal review of the incident and said all officers will undergo media relations refresher training.
