N.C. Officer Strikes Tree While Responding to ONA Call

Officer Russell Willingham, 28, responded to a 3:15 a.m. call from an officer asking for assistance after stopping a probable drunk driver who was weaving around the road.

A Winston-Salem (N.C.) Police officer died early Saturday in a crash while responding to another officer's request for backup.

Officer Russell Willingham, 28, responded to a 3:15 a.m. call from a fellow officer asking for assistance after stopping a probable drunk driver who was weaving around the road.

On the way, Officer Willingham's Ford CVPI left the roadway, went down an embankment and struck a tree.
