San Francisco Police have identified a 19-year-old parolee and murder suspect who was shot and killed after he allegedly fired at officers during a foot pursuit.
Kenneth Harding, 19, was shot and killed on Saturday during a foot pursuit in the high-crime Bayview-Hunters Point neighborhood.
Seattle Police were seeking Harding in connection with the shooting of Tanaya Gilbert, 19, who was struck Wednesday by a bullet intended for another person. He had recently been released from prison for attempting to force a 14-year-old girl into prostitution.
On Saturday, Harding was stopped at 4:44 p.m. by two uniformed officers who were conducting a fare inspection on a Muni light rail platform at Third and Palou streets. When the officers tried to talk to Harding, he drew a gun, ran into Mendell Plaza, and fired over his shoulder. The officers returned fire, hitting Harding.
The shooting was captured on multiple cell phones, and footage was posted to YouTube.
Citizen video footage taken at the scene helped police locate the handgun they believe Harding used. The firearm was apparently taken from the ground as officers tended to the suspect and before they could establish a crime scene.
